How to Export Artboards to Files (JPG, PNG, PSD…) in Photoshop

Hi guys, in this tutorial I will cover how to export Artboards to files in Photoshop CC 2017 Ensure that you have installed latest version of Photoshop and we can proceed with my tutorial

The first thing that I want to mention is that you can have overlapping areas That should be Artboard with content which is overlapping other Artboards I am mentioning this because in Export Artboards to Files you will have option to include or exclude this (overlapping) content Another thing that I want to mention is: when you have selected Artboard in the Layers panel you can open Properties panel and to choose Artboard Background Color In this case with Preview 1 Artboard, I have Transparent for background color but I do have layer with black fill which is covering entire Artboard

If I switch to Preview 2 Artboard, I have Black color for Artboard Background Color and I do not have fill layer which is covering entire Artboard Visually both Artboards appears with black background color That's what you need to know before you proceed to Export Artboards to Files Another option that I want to mention is that you can export only certain Artboards, for example only one or range of Artboards In that case you should select all Artboards that you want to export before you go to File > Export > Artboards to Files

In Artboards to Files dialog the first option is Destination Click on Browse button and navigate where you want to save files The second option is File Name Prefix You can type custom file name prefix By default it is file name

If you delete file name then Photoshop will use Artboard names for file naming convention You can type custom naming convention Let's proceed now to Overlapping Areas You can include overlapping areas and all Artboards will have that content in exported files If you don't want to include overlapping areas then check: Artboard Content Only

Another option is: Export Selected Artboards If you have selected one or more Artboards in the Layers panel you can use this option to export only that Artboards Otherwise you can uncheck this option and Photoshop will export all Artboards in your file Here is option to include background in export If you check this option then Photoshop will use instruction from Properties panel for each Artboard

If you have some color selected then Photoshop will fill background or transparent pixels with that color Below we have File Type and you have lots of file types to choose: PSD, PDF, PNG 8, PNG – 24 You have and Export Options which allows you to select options for that particular file type You can include Transparency, color profile Let me mention that this option Include Background in Export will actually overwrite Transparency option for PNG – 24, for example Keep in mind that if you have checked Include background in export and your Artboard have Black color for Artboard Background Color then Photoshop will export that Artboard as PNG with black background color Another interesting option is to include Artboard name If you check this option Photoshop will expand dialog and allow you to select font, font size and canvas extension color

This means that Photoshop will actually add canvas around Artboard and then will place Artboard name in the top left corner Artboard name will be written using font and font size chosen at the bottom of the dialog When you are done with instructions how to export Artboards to files simply click Run button and wait a couple of seconds Thanks for watching, cheers and if you have any difficulties to use this script please do not hesitate to leave comments on YouTube or on my blog which is DesignEasy
